High standards for Enniskillen

Prysmian’s FP Plus™, with enhanced Insudite™ insulation were used exclusively for the fi re system installed in the New Acute Hospital for the Southwest in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The hospital is scheduled to be completed in June 2012 and will provide 312 patient beds overlooking the picturesque Wolf Lough greenfield site.

The £276 million project is a major investment in Northern Ireland improving the level of health care services for the Western Health and Social Care Trust and its near 300,000 population.

The project began in 2009 and 100,000 metres of cabling has been installed by Dowds Electrical contractors, connecting the extensive fi re alarm system and other life safety systems such as Smoke Fire Dampers throughout the building.

Contracts Manager Nigel Connolly of Dowds Group M&E Services explains: ‘We specified Prysmian cables because they meet all current safety requirements whilst also being cost effective. In fact, Prysmian’s FP Plus™ cables actually exceed the current regulations specifi ed for projects in Northern Ireland.”

Nigel continues: “We also had to ensure that the work could be carried out as quickly and economically as possible and to the highest standard, as we had stringent time schedules to work to. With FP Plus being easily dressable and fast to install it fulfi lled these needs well. Overall we are delighted with how the job has gone”
